Royal Windsor Racecourse 2006 Winner’s Crystal Jug – Racing Stripes – Broadway Silversmiths

A genuine piece of British horse-racing history.

This impressive presentation crystal jug was awarded in connection with the Trailfinders European Breeders Fund Maiden Stakes (Class 4) at Royal Windsor Racecourse on Monday 19 June 2006. The jug is engraved “Royal Windsor Racecourse – Winner 2006” and comes with its original Broadway Silversmiths presentation box and accompanying information.

Contemporary race records identify the winner of the 7:35pm race as Racing Stripes (IRE), a two-year-old by Night Shift out of Swan Lake. Racing Stripes won at 10/3 under jockey P. J. Dobbs for trainer A. B. Haynes, making all and winning comfortably. Published career records show this Windsor success as Racing Stripes’ only win under Rules, giving this presentation piece an especially distinctive story and provenance.

The original box identifies the prize as a Crystal Jug. Broadway’s accompanying card states that the glass is hand blown and hand cut, explaining that small variations and occasional air inclusions are natural characteristics of its handmade production. Broadway Silversmiths is a Birmingham firm with a history dating to 1900.

The substantial clear crystal body has a tall elegant profile, shaped pouring lip and sweeping applied handle. It is finished with a silver-coloured metal base bearing visible stamped marks. We have not independently assay-tested the metal, so it is described conservatively rather than making an unsupported silver-content claim.

Condition: Pre-owned presentation piece. The crystal presents attractively; the metal base shows tarnishing/age-related surface wear and the presentation box has some storage marks. Please study all photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
